Before you begin, place a towel over the bird’s head because if they become frightened over what you are doing, there is a high probability that they bird will attack you. As you place the towel over the head, ensure your avian can still breathe, making sure to speak to that bird in a calming tone while holding them securely. The section of the toenail that is cut is the small hook that is found at the very end of every nail, although never cut much further as that will make your bird begin to bleed.

If your bird starts to bleed, use that styptic powder immediately over the area and ensure that bleeding ceases. Once you are done, put your avian back into it’s cage so it can calm down. Nonetheless, if you don’t have anyone around to help or you’re not that ready at the moment to do it yourself, carry it to the vet for proper care and handling.

The next item you have to do when grooming the bird is to clip their wings. The purpose for why you’ve got to cut the bird’s wings is to prevent it from flying into mirrors or windowpanes that might hurt them. To do this, you will of course require a small towel, astringent powder and a set of scissors. Lastly, mist your avian with water since this will help them stay sleek as well as smooth, plus it is a faster technique of cleaning them if they do not like bathing regularly.
